I consider myself a bit of a makeup snob. I generally buy all of my products from department stores because, well, I think they’re better. I know, it’s probably just my perception, but, I have tried lots of things and always come back to the fact that you get what you pay for. That being said, I like having a lot of options for lipsticks, so spending $20 per color is even too pricey for me. I started to get out of my comfort zone a bit this year and try a few lip products from Target and CVS. I actually found some that I really like so I thought, hey, why don’t I talk about which ones are my favorite, and bam, that’s what I’m doing now.
Disclaimer:
- I am obviously not going to be getting any calls to be a beauty spokesperson any time soon. I don’t love taking pictures of myself but wanted to include some of me wearing the lipstick so just take note of what it looks like, and not how crazy I look.
- Links to the products are more than likely affiliate links. That means, if you choose to buy from the link I provide, I could get a small commission. If you don’t want to, I get it, go to the store so you can see it in person.
I’ve tried a variety of brands and my favorite overall brand for lipstick is Maybelline. Here, I have two different formulas pictured. I have their Color Sensational Creamy Matte lipstick in Rich Ruby and the Color Sensational The Buffs Lipstick in Nude Lust. They both go on smoothly and evenly. I should mention that I do not like matte lipsticks. For me, they get really funky around the inner part of the lips and I hate when my lipstick doesn’t look perfect. I’d rather not have any on at all then to have some around the outer corners of my lips. That’s why I like the Maybelline Matte because it doesn’t really dry down too matte and it doesn’t stay on that well. I usually top it with a clear gloss and it stays on long enough for me. I don’t mind reapplying throughout the day.
Here’s another Maybelline product and you’ve actually seen me talk about this palette before. As you can tell by the picture, it has been well used. I really love a lip palette because lips are the one thing that I change daily. I love being able to use color on my lips to give myself a different look. These colors look pretty, they go on nicely, and while they don’t last super long, they’re easy to carry and reapply. Again, I prefer lipsticks that feel smooth and creamy vs matte. If you’re a matte girl, this probably wouldn’t be your thing.
Though I like Maybelline’s variety of products, my favorite affordable lipstick overall is by Covergirl. The Colorlicious lipstick goes on very smoothly and actually stays on for a long time. I top it with clear gloss and get a lot of mileage out of it. This color is also a nice “nude” color for me. I keep buying colors that are a little too light for me and I think I am not clear on my skin color. I feel like it’s very fair, but then I buy these nudes that make me look like a Kardashian so maybe I need to try some darker shades, I don’t know.
I also really love this Baby Lips product from Maybelline. I swear I have tried other brands!! This mimics the Clinique lip crayon that I love so much. It’s actually a little more long lasting than the Clinique one.
There you have it! I’ve tried a variety of lipsticks but these are my favorite. They range in price from $6-10, so it seems like a no brainer to give them a shot.
What are some of your favorite brands? I have tried Elf, Sonia Kashuk, and others, but for the price and color payoff, Maybelline seems to be the winner. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
