First, I apologize for not writing anything last week. Ellie was on Spring Break and since she is no longer napping, I was on full on mom duty ALL. DAY. LONG. Needless to say, I did not have time to write anything. I did take a bunch of pictures but I haven’t had a chance to edit them so I’m excited to do that sometime. I was going to post about styling tips today, but I am so excited that we’re going to start working on our bathrooms that I figured, hey, let’s do styling tips for the home!

If I were going to define my style, I would say that it’s a bit classic, a bit modern, and a bit eclectic. I like a lot of color but I like clean lines. I think the most important thing to me for style a home is character. I like cities with character, homes with character, and clothes with character. For the home, it’s important to use your “style” when adding color and details. Otherwise, it’s just another cookie cutter house that doesn’t represent you! Celebrate you by putting your stamp throughout your house!

Add Color

This can be in the form of wall paint, fabric, and small details like vases, candles, etc. I like bright colors but have found through trial and error that I prefer warm, light, bright colors. My living room is a light blue, my bedroom a teal, my kitchen a mint green, and my front living space is a light yellow. These are pictures I took of my kitchen recently. We remodeled it last year, so it was nice to be able to take everything down to the studs and rebuild it in my own style.

Update your fixtures

My husband and I always joke about how people put so much many into these beautiful granite countertops and then have plastic fixtures. You wouldn’t think something as simple as a faucet handle or a light would make a difference but it totally does. When we bought this house, everything was standard and very traditional which is not my style at all. I was so excited to be able to change up some of the things in the kitchen to make it feel more like my own. Now that we’re doing the bathrooms, I get to do it even more! I looked at so many lightning places but we finally decided to go with some less expensive choices at Home Depot. I think they still look nice even though they’re not top of the line.

Personalize your space with details that have meaning

Some of the things I really love are self help books, meditation books, local products, and plants. If you know me personally, you know that I value self improvement and spiritual development and so many of my books reflect that. I also love little knick knacks that are made in SC and so I try to have those things in my home. The kitchen is the heart and soul of a house (in my opinion) and it’s where I love to spend my time. I love to cook and I feel like it connects me to my family. I feel like the kitchen is the spiritual center of the house and because of that, I wanted to add some of that in the details. I chose books that are important to me and any knick knack I’ve gotten along my journeys. I don’t have pictures of it all, but I have a hand carved vase I bought when traveling to Africa, my great grandmother’s china, some pictures of my family, etc.

So onto the bathrooms. We’ve decided to remodel not just one bathroom, but two! I’ve got to get a plan together because I haven’t even thought about the other one. I’m super excited.
