If you have curly hair, you understand the struggle. If you’re a mom with curly hair, you REALLY understand the struggle. Curly hair can be a blessing and a curse.
The great thing about curly hair is that you can wear it many different ways, but it can be a curse if you don’t know how to style it. Here are some tips I’ve learned over the years. (p.s. pardon the horrible picture, but it’s kind of hard to take a photo of the back of my head with a big camera)
1. Don’t wash it every day
My hair is really dry and if I wash it every single day, it makes it worse. Especially after having kids, my hair became even more dry and coarse. I try to wash it every 3 days or so.
2. Use a good shampoo and conditioner
If I don’t use a good conditioner, my hair will be dry and tangled. it’ll end up frizzy instead of curly, so good, quality products is a must. speaking of…
3. Use good, quality styling products
I like a foaming mousse because it doesn’t leave my hair sticky, it’s light, and it helps my curls form. Foam is the key!!! A root boost is important because I’ll get a little lift which at the root (hence the name) and my hair won’t look like a triangle. Curly girls, you know what I’m talking about
4. A Diffuser, use it
A diffuser diffuses the air so that it helps the curls dry without having a lot of power blowing them straight. I can let me hair air dry, but when I use a diffuser, my curls are softer and I have more body
5. A Curling Wand
The very first day, my hair is super curly and soft. After I sleep on it, it starts to get kind of crazy. I just got this curling wand after a recommendation from a blog I read. It actually is pretty awesome! I definitely recommend it.
The Process:
After I get out of the shower, I lightly squeeze my hair with the towel so it’s still pretty wet, but not dripping. I brush it with a wide tooth comb and shape it a bit (add a part, that kind of stuff). I then add the styling mousse and apply the root boost to my back roots. Then, I take the hair dryer and dry the base of my roots without the diffuser. I have it on hot but at a very low setting. I, then, add the diffuser, and place the bottom of my hair in the diffuser. I lift it up to my head and count to 8. I do that all over my head. My hair is still a little damp when I’m done but mostly dry. I spray with the Moroccan Oil Hair spray because it’s awesome and out I go. If it’s a day where I don’t wash, I use the curling wand and some hair spray.
